Intro
It is my wish to build an unconventional page, by starting from scratch and resorting to an offbeat display. Although when I was doing research on how to build my own website, I did visit and analyze hundreds of pages, in the end no more than a dozen websites remained in my memory, precisely those that made me feel that designs and websites have no limits. Those inspiring sites spurred me on to do my best and design a webpage that hopefully will also make a positive impression on my visitors.
Brainstorming
In the brainstorming process I came up with 6 options to build this page. First of all, I organized my ideas on paper, in my notebook, where I used many more sheets than for the rest of my webpages. As I wished to make it different from the other pages I had seen on the Web, this time I preferred not to take any inspiration from the Internet.
Visuals
I certainly took my time to create the graphic elements of this page. For the gundam pieces (the objects framed inside every subframe) displayed on the gundam plastic board I need 20 elements, each representing a different digital graphic project. Although there are 20 of them displayed on the final online page, originally I had created over 40, but later discarded half of them.
Gundam Board
The following step was writing a description of each project. Some months ago I saw Penny Bank’s portfolio, in which she described her projects with Why, What and How sections. In doing so, she considerably facilitates the reading process. Another success of hers is the inclusion of very logical white spaces. Decisions like these help the user to feel oriented in each section. I fell in love with this way of describing a project.
